12/28/2001 Charging the Base in
Mech4 Black Knight
We've posted an article that shows what mechs are best for base
destruction as the above 101 KPH speed. Also included are suggestions for weapons
configuration best for this job. |

12/27/2001 A Good Place to Buy
This is something of a slow week in the gaming industry, with most
companies geared down until after the new year rings in. It is, however, still shopping
season, so in that spirit we'll throw out a plug for Compexpert. It's a good place to order games from online; not as well
known as big boys like ebworld, but
they have frequent specials that are well worth the price of admission. It's a good place
to look before you buy, especially their 48 hour madness section (and no, we don't get
kickbacks for mentioning them).
12/25/2001 Beta News and Holiday Greetings
There's a posting up on the main page of Blizzard's web site announcing that
Warcraft III Beta tester signups will begin Monday evening, January 7, and continue for a
24-hour period. 5,000 lucky participants will be chosen, but expect many, many people to
sign-up to preview this highly anticipated game.
Merry Christmas from us and ours to you and yours!
12/24/2001 NEW Wolfenstein Multiplayer Demo
and Map
I know, I know. We are starting to look like demo
download news post junkies. If Gray
Matter and id would stop
being so generous we could stop reporting these. The new
MP demo has the same beach map as the original MP demo plus an additional map called
"Trench Toast". If you own the full retail version of RtCW, make sure to download
Trench Toast is a new multiplayer map for the retail game as well. It is like opening
a one small gift on Christmas Eve before ripping through the pile of packages tomorrow
morning.
12/21/2001 Wolfenstein on PS2
You may not have noticed but our poll in the right column has ended and
Return to Castle Wolfenstein has become our next HappyGamers.com supported game. Now that
RtCW is under our Wing of Love, watch for more RtCW posts like this one. Apparently Wolfy
is going the way of the PlayStation 2 already on sale at EBgames.com. The order form shows a ship date of 6/1/2002 but I
wouldn't hold my breath. As stated before we focus on PC gaming but it will be nice to add
some PS2 players to shoot come mid to late 2002. Thanks to GameSpy for noticing this
little tidbit.

Serious Downloading
Oh yes . . . bombs and smiley faces. Serious Sam: The Second
Encounter has a demo up for download at
FilePlanet. The demo gives a taste of new boom sticks, power ups and baddens. I hear there
are tweaks to the game engine for more efficiency. Croteam claims it may run better than the first game on the same
computer. You don't hear that much these days unless the word Unix is in the sentence.
Either way it should be a fun follow up installment to the first Serious Sam, First Person
Shooter with a lot to shoot. |

12/18/2001 Taking the XBox Online
This is a PC gaming site, but since the XBox basically is a PC, we'll let
it slip through for a post. The new console has captured some early popularity, and it
turns out that some industrious individuals haven't been content to wait for Microsoft to
release on-line gaming capability (scheduled to be done probably by mid-2002). Currently,
there are two ways to take your XBox on-line over a broadband connection and go
head-to-head with other players. XBoxGW
does this by using a Linux machine as the gateway (though a Windows version is in the
works). GameSpy Arcade has also delivered this
functionality, with the bonus of being Windows compatible right now.
No Xboxes here,so we can't vouch for how well these work ourselves. Feel free to
let us know if you try it.
12/17/2001 Return to Castle Wolfenstein Single
Player Demo!
If you haven't taken the plunge and invested in a full copy of Return
to Castle Wolfenstein, take a look at the new
SP demo available for download. It is 2 full levels of single player action. Many have
enjoyed sampling the multiplayer
test. One can now take in the backdrops, sounds and other atmosphere designed for the
single player story line.
11/22/2001 Return to
Castle Wolfenstein in stores
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. After you've finished stuffing in the
turkey, you can now spend the rest of the weekend stuffing |
|
yourself full of FPS carnage. The highly
anticipated RtCW is now available on store shelves, and it promises to be big. We'll have
a review upsoon. Meantime, feel free to send us your thoughts on the game. FYI,
the game is available in two packages: the regular box, and a silver collector's tin,
which costs $10 more MSRP. The contents of the two boxes are identical.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - GONE GOLD!
I don't know about you but this is going on my Christmas list. Gamespy reported today the wonderful
news that RtCW has gone gold. Keep your eyes on HappyGamers.com for other related
Wolfenstein news. In the mean time, read our little
snibit about RtCW in our Happy Happy Halloween game
article. Or check out the new Demo download,
reported on last week.11/06/2001 General
Gaming News
Let's see - Black Knight is officially out. No surprise there, but we might as well make
it official. We've already got impressions to share, but we'll keep our mouths shut for a
few days. Look for BK Mech4 Strat Guide additions
as well as a review by the weekend.
Games We're Really Looking Forward to Dept.
Black Knight no longer belongs here, but Return to Castle Wolfenstein does. In case
you didn't know, a new version of the Multiplayer test is up and available for download.
Still just one map, but new modes of play are available as well as miscellaneous changes. Download it from FilePlanet here; the download page has a
list of changes.
Spend Money for Imaginary Cards Dept.
Wizards of the Coast has announced an online
version of its popular Magic: the Gathering collectible card game. Now, instead of
spending money for pieces of cardboard, players can spend money for imaginary pieces
of cardboard. We'll see if this new concoction will be more successful bringing Magic to
the PC than past efforts. It certainly couldn't be much worse...
Retro Trivia Dept.
French monolith InfoGrames
has announced that it will be reviving the historic Atari brand. The name that was once synonymous with games will be
plastered across the box of MXRider
and brought to a PlayStation2 near you this very month.

10/30/2001 Happy Happy Halloween
We've posted an article on some spooky games in the spirit of Halloween. And the best
part: LOTS OF DEMO DOWNLOADS. Free is good like candy.
10/27/2001 Another Black Knight Interview
GameSpy.com has posted another Black Knight article, this one interviewing two of the guys
from FASA Studios. Some new screenshots accompany the article. One particularly striking
shot displays an aerospace fighter flying through a cloud-filled night sky. The article
also reveals a few more details about the plot and functionality of the single player
game, and says exactly what we wanted to hear about multi-player: that siege assault and
strongholds are the development team's favorite parts of the expansion. Read it
here. |

Goes Gold MechWarrior 4: Black Knight has gone gold,
meaning that the release build of the product has been finished and sent off to
duplication. Expect the product on store shelves near you |
|
in early November.
The game should bear a suggested retail price of $34.99, but is currently being made
available for preorder at $29.99 by at least three different e-tailers: Amazon, EBworld, and GameStop. |
10/07/2001 Third Party
Multi-player Maps
Since a level editor has been release for Mech 4 we are bound to see more and more custom
levels made. These maps are hefty to download
but Ash at Ash's Office has produced some spectacular maps. War torn worlds with
trenches that mechs can become stuck in. Planets so close to the their sun that the heat
is double what is normal for current maps. Repair bays, got to love repair bays.
10/06/01 MechWarrior 4 Black Knight
PICS and info
It looks like 2 Inner Sphere mechs have been given a generous ammount of
omni slots. Sunders and Black Knights for everyone. Check out our recent predictions article
to see how close we are AND get our prediction of game play. |

It is a good day for MechWarrior fans - in addition to the new expansion

downloads are a little thick - the point release is 13MB, and the editor just over 14MB.

The multiplayer test for the sequel to Id Software's classic
first-person-shooter Castle Wolfenstein is now available for download. Visit the game's site for
